I actually don't have much experience as a tutor beyond helping classmates study, however throughout my experience in high school I've experimented with and adopted many avant-garde and unorthodox studying techniques and thought processes that have served gratuitously to my benefit, and I'm positive will serve yours as well.
I'm currently a senior attending Winter Park High School. I have a slew of education and extracurricular related accolades, and have been commended highly for my skills in writing (both creative and professional). My transcript has a long history of Advanced Placement courses and my standardized exam scores are impressive to say the least least (30 ACT, 1800 SAT, multiple AP Exam credits).

My comments on tutoring Political Science : One of the few classes I wish I could retake in college.

I have always approached a teaching lesson as a learning opportunity. Learning is a fundamental skill. If you don't have your basic fundamentals, your student will have difficulty advancing. So, I always start with basic fundamentals such as; note taking, study skills, and comprehension! All sciences demand the ability to link concepts together. Ex. cells make up tissues, tissues make up organs, organs make up organ systems,etc.....! By understanding the make-up of cellular structures and relating that to tissue functions the students can fully understand a subject. This proves true with all subjects. By impowering the student with good base fundamentals, my students find it easier to link concepts together.

Learning Can be Fun!

I like to allow the student to read the material once and clarity any areas that need more explanation. Then I will allow them to answer questions from the material read and help them where needed to choose the correct answer and understand the reason for the answers. I like to reward a certain level of correct answers with points that can be redeemed for interesting small prizes. I also consider myself very patient and interested in the student having a strong foundation for future learning.
I have tutored children in group and individual piano lessons. I have tutored them in math and social studies. I have spent over 20 years in business in the accounting field and prepared countless financial statements and income tax returns. I am skilled in all things mathematical. I also speak Spanish through over 9 years of instruction.

I believe that having an education is the most important component an individual can gain. I have educated individuals on a day to day basis throughout life in the areas of Science, Math, and English. I feel that you can never know too much and there is always something new to learn. Learning is an important way to gain experience in life. Everybody strives to learn something different, each learns at a different pace and level making them unique. I believe in being there for a child, listening to their needs, believing in their potential, never giving up, determination, and positive reinforcement. After all, education is the stepping stone in life that lets us succeed and become who we will be in the future.

I am a teacher/instructor by nature. I do not believe there is but one method to solve any problem. I make every attempt to relate the use and application of math to the students’ real world environments and situations. I believe in the demonstration/performance method of instruction: explanation, demonstration, student performance and evaluation. My students are very aware that my goal is their success. The following is an extraction from a letter written on my behalf by a colleague: “I frequently teach students who have taken prerequisite math courses from Marc, and those students are always very well prepared and do very well. I respect his ability to adapt, innovate and succeed in the classroom. Beyond the classroom, Marc holds informal study sessions with students, generously giving his time to help students succeed. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that effective teaching can only be communicated through genuine passion. In order to reach a student, you must begin by showing a concern for each student's success. In addition to establishing a concern, it is important to celebrate each success and address each opportunity with honest head-on coaching. I believe that a successful teacher employs adaptable teaching techniques and consistent classroom policy. Studies have proven that individuals favor one of their senses primarily in the learning process. An effective teacher will utilize formats that employ varying senses in order to reach a wider audience. As each challenge comes, a true teacher never gives up or loses hope with a student.

Each person is unique in every way including the learning style that is most advantageous. Some people learn by practical, hands-on experience or through academic lectures and texts. Others require a mixture of the two methods. As a Department of Corrections teacher, very often I tried several learning methods to help one particular student understand the topic. At times, I used non-traditional classroom methods to convey the concept successfully to the student. Most times, the students enjoyed themselves with my demonstrations. Typically, I find that presenting the topic information in a non-traditional classroom way, as in making it entertaining and practical, students learn more and more easily. They are also not aware that they are learning. In addition, during demonstrations, students learned proper social interaction. After the demonstration, students learned how to apply ... read more

I believe that each person is an individual and as such needs personalized help. Not everyone learns as the same rate, but given time and the proper reinforcement will learn. Students much be allowed to have a certain freedom to choose likes and strengths as well as weaknesses. We all have them! If the teacher can show the relevance to a student's life then the student will understand the "why" for learning. One on one as well as equal treatment will bring results. Some days you learn a lot and other days it just takes time.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked as support staff for six years. This November I passed my state boards and received my 5 year professional teaching license in ESE K-12 education. This past April I passed my NCLB qualifications for Elementary Education K-6. I am currently pursuing the FLDOE Reading Endorsement and am 2 courses away from finishing. I am a high achiever, focused, and determined individual and expect the same excellence in my students.
I teach by example, by first modeling my expectations or skill. Then letting the students model the skill with me. Then, I allow the students time to practice the skill. I believe the proper term is scaffolding. I am a direct teacher there is no misunderstanding in the messages or instruction that I convey. I love tutoring one-on-one, and my experience has proven that this kind of academic attention can help every student succeed. I enjoy discovering which learning method works best for each individual student, and then helping that student make the most of his or her study time. One of my goals when I tutor is to make sure that each student knows how talented and smart they are, even in the subjects that may be difficult for them right now. Over the years, I have enjoyed watching many of the students I have tutored succeed and with that success, comes great confidence for the future.
I began tutoring in college while I earned my degree in Sociology. I minored in Spanish, so I tutored other students for three years in college level Spanish. A Little Bit About Me...

Having studied the language, literature, history, and archaeology of ancient Greece for my degree, I chose to go to Greece to live and work. For ten years, I taught English at many levels, my students being of different ages and having various skill and test requirements. I discovered in myself a vocation to teach and a talent in making challenging material intelligible and even a pleasure to learn. Specifically, I taught grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, composition, and listening and conversational skills. I have also read fairly widely, indulging my curiosity in artistic, philosophical, political and economic areas, all of which inform my presentation of and guidance through textbook material.
I believe teaching to be a matter of enablement. The student's immediate goal is to absorb and understand the material, and the teacher's is to make this understanding happe ... read more
