My comments on tutoring Psychology : Have experience in providing individual and group tutoring college students for general psychology courses.

I am a Licensed Psychologist in the State of Minnesota and have been working as a psychologist for going on 20 years. Both my undergraduate and Master's degrees are in psychology and counseling services. As an undergraduate, I was the psychology tutor for college students who were taking the general psychology classes. In my current job, I provide counseling, consultation and coaching services to employees in over organizations. I also provide training on a number of topics around mental health. Learning has been a life-long passion of mine and I have volunteered at a number of organizations over my career to provide tutoring on general courses for elementary students through a YMCA program, and also provided life skill tutoring and coaching for Hmong refugees who recently entered the U.S. I also keep myself abreast of new developments in the field of psychology by participating in a book ... read more

Psychology is one of my top subjects! I have a minor in psychology at the bachelor level, and am working on my masters' degrees in community mental health counseling and school counseling.

I began tutoring in high school, as a sophomore. I started tutoring freshmen, and continued throughout my high school career. I would also often lead study groups with friends. In college, I was never an official tutor. However, I would lead study groups with friends. I have a strong background in sociology, which was my undergraduate major. I minored in psychology as well. I am currently getting my masters' degrees in both community mental health counseling, and in school counseling, which has significantly added to my previous knowledge of the field of psychology. I have had a practicum and an internship experience as a school counselor, which required teaching lessons, so I do have some teaching background. I was also employed with the Winona Workforce Center, in Winona MN, as a school outreach worker. I went to five different high school, teaching students about careers and job ... read more

I was in a program called "Study Buddies" all four years at high school. I would devote a couple afternoons a week tutoring middle school students (and eventually high school students). During this time I would help them study for tests, complete assigned work, or help clarify any material that the student didn't understand. Also, I helped these students develop their writing and grammar skills. Starting my junior and senior year of high school, I began "one on one" tutoring with selected individuals. Study buddies was a program where several students would show up and the helpers would assist accordingly, but when I began tutoring I specifically met with them at assigned times. I tutored mainly in math, but I also helped with all of their homework and helped them study for tests. I found it to be an excellent learning experience for me as well as the student. I embrace a unique passion for teaching children, especially for working with students on a one-on-one basis. I thrive on connecting with each student as an individual, and enhancing their academic lives in ways they may not get in other environments. I strive to "find" every child's gift, and celebrate it. I observe the strengths and weaknesses of each student, and work with the teaching team and parents to determine steps in building on each identified success and/or challenge. My dream is to forever work with children in an effort to provide them knowledge, safety, consistency, and love.
I designed and taught a first-ever prekindergarten program at St. Anne School in Somerset, WI. During my undergrad studies at UWRF, I was sponsored to become a tutor in the Writing Center on campus. There was a prerequisite practicum, but it was very hands-on learning. I worked with students from a variety of backgrounds (ESL, freshman comp, MS candidates, etc). At Metro State I participated in a semester program teaching English in Puerto Rico, for which I received the ESL certification. I also TA'd for Writing and Designing for the Web.
I am a very adaptable teacher--I can easily pick up on a student's needs and abilities, and work to their strengths in that way. I enjoy not only helping them learn, but also their backstory and considering how it affects their learning style. I also have an innate love of learning, and feel that it's a great gift to help someone realize their own potential.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that every child has the ability to be a successful learner, and I enjoy watching my students grow and improve at different paces. My goal is to make each child feel comfortable in their learning environment, while challenging each student according to their level of ability. I respond well to students who become easily frustrated, and adjust my teaching style accordingly. It can only take one teacher to make a difference in a child's educational path. It is my goal to be that kind of teacher.
I recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin River Falls with a BS in Marketing Communications. My minor area of study while at River Falls was Psychology, and over the course of my college career, my interest in the topic has developed into a career goal. I plan to return to UW River Falls this Fall to earn a Mater's degree in School Psychology. For the past six years I ha ... read more

When teaching, I will be mindful of my position as a role model and the kind of learning I strive to promote of transformative learning among students. Transformative learning is a reciprocal--informative and uplifting for teachers and students alike. It is about opening hearts and minds and changing lives for all those involved in the process. I will consider myself a successful teacher when students feel personally changed by their participation in my classroom and when students are able to challenge their beliefs through the use of critical thinking while keeping an open mind. These are tools of empowerment and rewards of transformative teaching and learning.

My style of teaching is dynamic, active and often visual. I demonstrate ideas and concepts either visually or by association, to bring a picture in the mind of the learner. I endeavor to simplify complicated ideas. I use demonstration, analogy and metaphor to invite the learners away from the fear of learning and into the realm of fun. I believe all people, young and old, are inquisitive and eager to learn. I believe roadblocks to learning can be removed with patience, understanding and acceptance of the person trying to learn. I believe there is great potential in all people and I strive to help them find their place in the world. I’m committed to bringing understanding and insight to each student I teach. I have fun!

A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked mainly with children, but enjoy teaching all ages. I tend to take a systematic approach and keep my lessons structured. I like to have students keep some sort of record of their practice time, as well as their progress. I also am a strong believer in making learning fun, so I try to listen to my students' needs and pay attention to their learning styles so I can create activities that they will not only find educational but fun as well.
I began teaching at a very young age. I began my own music lesson company which taught basic level of piano, guitar, saxophone and voice lessons out of my house before I began high school. After achieving my certificate of proficiency in Spanish from Hamline I then began to also privately tutor Spanish. I also have earned my TEFL/TESOL certificate and will eventually go abroad and teach English overseas.

I enjoy catering to the students learning style. I like to identify the students strong and weak points, and find ways to use what the student already has, to make his or her weak points stronger. I enjoy teaching through experience and take a very active approach in engaging the student.
