My comments on tutoring Advertising : I have done ads for Solo Cup for various campaigns which include not only graphics but copywriting.

I have worked in the graphic design/advertising field for 10 years and have been drawing all my life. I run the gamut from Photoshop and Illustrator to pencil, charcoal and watercolor. I think it's important to know how to build a file well so that it is enabled for printing, while not compromising creativity. With drawing it is important to draw what you see before you can invent. Anatomy is important.
I like to draw students out with questions and get them thinking for themselves. In order to handle situations in the real world one needs appropriate problem solving skills. When I show something to a student I want them to repeat what I've just done and then explain why this works - but I want them to also try and find another way that will work. (If there is one)

One year after graduating from Westminster High School, I began substitute teaching for Carroll County in many different subjects. Through these opportunities I became aware of The Arc of Carroll County, where I decided to apply for a full-time job as an instructional assistant, where I have spent the last five years working with the developmentally disabled population. Shortly after starting at the Arc, I decided to return to school to further my education. I began this process at Carroll Community College, from where I graduated in 2007. It's imperative to listen and understand a students challenges. Reviewing their previous work and giving a current test is a good indicator of the situation. I believe in practice and examples as the clearest path to success. I don't hand deliver answers and I make the process towards answers engaging. I make sure the time and place are conducive to active and non-distractive learning. I relay the importance and relevance of the material. A Little Bit About Me...

I have assisted a number of students; Grades 1-12 as well as college-aged and continuing education in various math and science courses. My previous career included 27 years in the television industry at various local production facilities in Oklahoma, Texas, Maryland as well as the Washington DC bureau of the ABC Network. I love tutoring all ages, and find that adults, while a bit harder to reach in the beginning are usually the most enjoyable to work with.
I like to take the "mystery" out of the subject. Math can be especially scary to students who don't have a strong foundation in general mathematics and reading comprehension.
