A Little Bit About Me...

Making the learning session interactive makes a world of difference in teaching a language, and I find that incorporating play-acting into a learning session excites and motivates the student. Using the list of vocabulary words and rules of grammer the student is currently in the process of learning, I like to create a scenario with the student, stand up and walk away from the table, and pretend that we are actually at the dentist, the grocery store, etc. I also like to use topics that relate to the student's age and environment, thereby make the language 'real' to them.
I tutored fellow students regularly in Spanish, French, and German all 4 years of college, as I studied in Europe and Mexico, and was placed in advanced college levels my first semester in college. After completing a year as a teacher I realized that what I liked about teaching is the actual teaching part. Unfortunately for me, most of what was involved with being a teacher for me included tasks other than teaching, which was not what I had expected. I do very well with 1-on-1 tutoring and small group tutoring. The 11-15 age group is what I am especially interested in, but I have had experience with all ages from 4-25 years old. I have a lot of patience with students and passion for my subject (language), and what really makes me love teaching is being able to relate the subject to each individual in a personal way. By having students produce language and create written and spoken assessments about themselves, they are more likely to put information in their long-term memory.
