A Little Bit About Me...

In my 6 years of teaching experience I’ve come to find out that there is no such thing as a “stupid question.” Each child or adult has a specific way of learning according to their own character. That’s the reason some are faster to learn mathematical concepts while others are faster in literary concepts. I believe in going slow and asking my students to explain what they’ve learned in their own words. If they can do this easily it means they have mastered the concepts. I usually encourage pre-reading before tutoring sessions. A student who has read the chapter ahead will absorb information more easily than one who has not read ahead.

Also as opposed to a classroom, I feel that the student should have the floor. This is their time to ask questions and talk through problems. When doing problems, I usually like to ask questions that gradually lead up to the answer and establish the concepts to get to the solution. Finally, I like tutoring experiences to be fun and am not afraid to lighten the mood with occasional jokes, as it seems that this atomosphere makes students more open and excited to learn the given material.
Throughout my undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois, I developed a passion for teaching and helping others achieve the ac ... read more
