I'm a fifth-teen year old, currently enrolled at Thomas J. Corcoran High School, where I am a sophomore I currently take IB classes and wanted to start tutoring to pass the time and pick up a little extra cash. I'm drug free and have never tasted alcohol. I try to be patient and usually am. I'd prefer to work with children still in elementary or middle school, seeing as I haven't learned everything yet. I know the basic and more to just about everything eighth grade and below. Typically the setting in which the tutoring will take place will be my house in my dining room area and after that the student may watch television until his or her parent or guardian is there to pick them up.

Because I was a "non-tradional" student, one with my own children, I knew several things from the start: first and foremost, I will always treat students the way I wish my own children are treated by their teachers. My teaching style will vary depending on the class as a whole or the type of student I am working with individually. In order to be an effective teacher I have seen that I need to be flexible with how I present material to a student. If a student is visual I am able to create diagrams and use props to show a concept rather than only speak the material. Some students need hands on and things like manipulatives in math help create a concrete way to remember a concept, and this is also something I do. In my mind success as a teacher is largely based on the success of the student and I am able to figure out what a specific child needs and adjust my teaching style to that student.

I have had two practicum rotations thus far. My first rotation was at C. W. Baker High School, in Baldwinsville, NY. This was a 10th grade, level one Global Studies classroom. I assisted with group activites, and helping students connect the information they were currently learning to prior knowledge. My second rotation was at Grant Middle School, in Syracuse, NY. This is a 7th grade (begining US history) classroom.
