A Little Bit About Me...

Having been a recent graduate, I have the advantage of knowing what students appreciate when they are being taught. Making art should have us engaged, educated, and liberated. I want students to enjoy art by helping them learn to work through frustrations: experimenting with techniques and exploring subject matter (color, value, shape, contrast, etc.) I give encouraging suggestions and provide freedom to promote self discipline.
I take pleasure in working with community-oriented organizations, building my body of work, and emerging as a young artist. My skills are proficient in drawing but I am also disciplined in painting and sculpting. I believe that my creative strengths as an artist and my organizational skills make me an excellent art tutor. I want to work with others, guiding them to improve their skills with positive and constructive criticism.

I have taught elementary school for 16 years. One year in the Lincoln Country School District and 15 years in the Rockwood School District. I have taught grades 1,2,3 and 5. I served as grade level chair in each grade level, on all subject area commitees, and as teacher's representative to the PTO. I have tutored students for the before and after school program.
I am a very patient teacher who treats students with respect. It is my goal to reach all learners and meet their needs from all ability levels and cultural backgrounds. I am a recent graduate from Lindenwood University. I received my Bachelors of Fine Art in Studio Art. My area of expertise is painting, drawing and art history. I also took two Education course during this time, one was a teaching observation class for elementary art. To further my education in the arts,I work for a Non Profit Art Organization in the St. Louis area. My first teaching experience was as a high school senior where I was given the opportunity to teach a small group of 5th graders as part of the Missouri A+ program. We began with division, quickly moving into linear and nonlinear algebra, before touching on the fundamentals of complex numbers, graph theory and trigonometry, before concluding with a derivation of the quadratic formula and its applications. I spent three semesters as the academic chair for my fraternity enforcing study hours for fraternity brothers with lower GPA’s; tutoring students in algebra, calculus, physics, and computer science, among other fields. I have also had five years of experience in Latin up to the college level with one year of Japanese.
