I believe in a constructivist approach to education. Stusents come with prior knowledge of topics. My goal is to get those students to connect prior knowledge with new information. I also believe that there are mltiple ways that students learn. They can have multiple intelligences in several areas, such as artistic, kinesthetic, or visual and spatial. My challenge is to assess each student's learning style and then design activties that work to that style. EVery student can learn, and my goal is to facilitate that learning.

A Little Bit About Me...

In 2001, I graduated from IUP with a degree in elementary education. I substitute taught around the South Hills of Pittsburgh for a year, then moved to Virginia, where I taught fifth grade for four years. The first three years were in a public school and the fourth in a private school. I taught all subject areas and skill level abilities.
I would describe my teaching style as hands on and according to multiple learning styles. I understand that students learn best when they have the option of working with material objects. I also realize that students all learn in different ways and therefore I try to teach to each student's learning style. If a student doesn't understand it one way, I try to teach it another way so that he/she can learn it.

My education has given me a unique background in child development and knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques. All of which enable me to create lessons that use innovative methods and approaches to engage all students in the learning process. I have completed a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, a master's degree in Reading and Language Arts, and hold two teaching certifications, Elementary Education and Reading Specialist. I have had numerous experiences working with children including teaching, tutoring, working as a nanny, and a camp counselor.
