I tutored elementary students while in high school. These students were the ones with slight learning disablities. I tutored in college both in chemistry and biology but mainly chemistry. I have been in the workforce for many years and feel that my knowledge would be helpful to others. I have also tutored in math, mostly algebra.

In my 6 years of teaching experience I’ve come to find out that there is no such thing as a “stupid question.” Each child or adult has a specific way of learning according to their own character. That’s the reason some are faster to learn mathematical concepts while others are faster in literary concepts. I believe in going slow and asking my students to explain what they’ve learned in their own words. If they can do this easily it means they have mastered the concepts. I usually encourage pre-reading before tutoring sessions. A student who has read the chapter ahead will absorb information more easily than one who has not read ahead.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently a graduating senior at Wilberforce University. When that day comes, I will have a BS in Biology. This degree has allowed me to gain hands on experience within different fields of study along with enhancing my kowledge of the biological sciences and all that it embodies. Also with Spanish, I have not had the experience of teaching but I have been learning the Spanish language for the last ten years (since the sixth grade). I can read as well as write the language and hold a descent conversation. I have previously worked as a tutor/mentor in this field of study for high school graduates. I am a big believer in real life examples and visual cues. I write every little detail so that one can always look back to their notes and have no problem revising. Courses such as biology and psychology are comprised of a ton of theory, therefore diagrams, frequent quizzes and examples play an integral part to learning. I describe the lengthy terms and processes by breaking them down, drawing and explaining the origin of the words. On the other hand, mathematics and statistics require consistent practice.
