My teaching style with students of all ages is to facilitate their learning as opposed to simply feeding them what I feel is the best response. Students learning is maximized when they can take ownership of and pride in their work. I am very patient. It's imperative to listen and understand a students challenges. Reviewing their previous work and giving a current test is a good indicator of the situation.
