I tailor my teaching style to the student. I first evaluate where the student is by building rapport, discussing the problem he/she is having, talking to the teacher, and talking to the parents. I then begin focusing on the area where the student is having difficulties. It may be that the student requires help with homework as well as review of fundamentals. I address both areas, always encouraging the student.

The goal of my approach is to enable students to have a level of ownership in learning concepts and ideas. Merely teaching the idea is not enough, and that "Oh, I see" moment must occur to embed the idea for long-term growth. I enjoy relating the ideas and facts to real world examples that almost anyone can grasp.
For a period of five years, I offered tutoring services to students at the University of Chapel Hill, Duke University, and North Carolina State University. My ability comes from experience...I was not entirely prepared for college when I started, and had to work much harder to successfully complete my degrees. A Little Bit About Me...

I have spent 4 years as a Spanish teacher and the past two years as a substitute teacher while working on my master's degree in Special Education. I have had many experiences with many different levels of learners both as a Spanish teacher and as a sub. Subbing has given me the opportunity to work with kids K-12 in a variety of different learning levels and subject areas. A Little Bit About Me...

In teaching/tutoring, I have an ongoing teacher-student conversation that resembles a programmed unit. I talk mathematics from a tutor's point of view and expect the student to fill in the blanks in a way such that I've set him/her up. What it does is keep the student's attention since they've to answer my questions and "fill in my blanks".
