First, in order for the students to best understand the material, I break it down to their level. For subjects like math, it is simple to develop a step by step method for the students to write down and follow. Once the students have mastered the steps they are motivated to continue with the material because it seems straightforward. It is also important to have the students connect to the material; if they understand how the information is used in every day life then they will become more excited and motivated to learn. In Full Sail, I was exposed to a style of teaching not unlike an automatic car wash; a quick brush through the curriculum, and the student was expected to come out knowledgeable about the topic. Unfortunately, I found that true mastery is best produced through hands-on, individual teaching that emphasized comprehension of the material. Oftentimes, I found myself clarifying information that a fellow student had failed to grasp in the lectures.
