A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching and believe that all students can learn. There are many ways to interest them; and with technology, all students will research and work with language and culture. I have had great success with students on a one-to-one basis. In language learning, some students have needed out-of-class time to work privately with me. I have also advised students and interested them in doing projects for club activities.

Along with my students, I find that I am always learning better ways to transmit my knowledge, and this openness to adapt and change to the needs of the various students in front of me best describes my teaching style. However, in each lesson, I strive to incorporate both visual and auditory presentations of material. I also strive to incorporate listening and writing activities into each lesson. I love working toward that "ah-ha" moment when a student makes a link, finds a pattern, or even finds new success from new approaches to studying.
Having lived for two, nonconsecutive years in France, I developed a deep sense of responsibility and personal drive. Having taught both French and English in a high school, I have also acquired practical skills that allow me to effectively transmit my passion to both students who want to learn, and to those who face more challenges in the learni ... read more

I really enjoy tutoring. I have been told in the past by students I have tutored that I am able to bring the information to their level, helping them to more easily understand the subject at hand. I believe that anyone can learn and master any topic that they are faced with. With the right techniques and learning styles, I believe that any effective tutor can aid their student tremendously.
As an Honors Student at Utica College, and as a past tutor, I feel very comfortable in the teaching setting. My long term goal is to enter the doctorate program at Syracuse University so that I may teach at the college level in the future. My BS in accounting with CPA concentration has given me the knowledge and skills that would allow me to be an excellent tutor in the specific area. In the last five years, I have tutored math, accounting, macro and micro economics. As a recent college graduate ... read more

I went into teaching because I enjoy working with children. I do not think of teaching as a job. It is very rewarding to me that I can help children understand complicated material. I make things simple and use things that they already know to build on to get them to understand the material. I like to teach the children pneumatic devices to help them remember the material1. When I instruct the students, I make sure to teach the different learning styles among the children and abilities. Howard Gardener (1983) came up with a theory that there are 8 different learning styles and Carol Ann Tomlinson (2000) came up with a theory called Differentiated Instruction. This is using multiple ways of instruction to ensure that all students are able to learn by the way you teach them. I use many different kinds of assessment as well. I always try to make my lessons as fun as I can to make the studen ... read more

When helping others, I do it two ways. I tell them how to do it and guide them through it. Other times, I show them how to do it. However, I do not do it for them. I would love to have the chance to help children succeed in their education! It would be an honor!
