I graduated from Augustana College with a BA in Math/Computer Science and Education and Northwestern University with and MBA in Marketing and Policy and Environment. While my initial jobs were with corporations in systems, marketing, and planning, I found I used my teaching skills on a daily basis by applying mathematics and computers, doing research and writing reports, organizing and preparing plans, teaching individuals and groups, making presentations, conducting reviews, and continuing to improve my personal and technical skills. I believe that proficient language knowledge and use is crucial to a person’s career development and every-day communication skills. I enjoy helping students see progress toward their individual goals while at the same time making learning an exciting challenge and experience. I believe one-on-one tutoring can be the most productive and effective way to learn subject matter in a timely manner.
Since receiving my bachelor’s degree in 2007, I have been involved in teaching students of all ages and backgrounds. I enjoy teaching several subjects to all different age levels. I enjoy taking a difficult subject and finding the way in which it relates to the student. While in college I was a youth soccer referee in which the referee has to explain to the rules and apply them to kids ages 5-11. It is exciting to watch the students understand the message that I am trying to portray. If the first attempt to explain something to a student is unsuccessful, then I will explain it in different ways until the student understands. A good teacher can make all the difference as I have learned through my educational experience.

My teaching style is learner-centered, constructivist, and practical. I believe that a teacher must get to know her students on a personal level to facilitate the best learning. By ascertaining a student’s current knowledge and beliefs about a particular subject, I am able to help students advance to their fullest potential. If students understand the applicability of a concept or skill, they are much more likely to be engaged in learning it. Thus, I give students as much “real-world” practice as possible, so they can see the value in the subject they are learning.
