Teaching is a wonderful experience! My teaching style is laid-back, I'd say. I like having conversations in order to determine how someone learns. I think people learn best when discussing the material and really think it out before they start creating something. Guiding a student down the path of their own learning style is important because they will need those skills in the future when they go off to college or start a career on their own. My first experience tutoring was in 8th grade when my 6th grade math teacher asked me to help some of his struggling students. I greatly enjoyed the experience and wanted to continue. I didn't get another chance to tutor until my freshman year of college. I volunteered to help a young man who could not take notes for himself. As the semester progressed, he asked for my help in understanding the material, so I began informally tutoring him in Biology. I also had the opportunity to tutor a young student in Short Calculus. Most currently I have been teaching a lab section at the University of Minnesota. The class is about 18 students and meets once a week for 3 hours.
