A Little Bit About Me...

I have been an educator for 23 years,as an elementary school teacher, and in special education at the secondary level. I have a master's degree in learning disabilities, and have worked on a Child Study Team for the past 14 years. I believe all children can learn if taught to their individual learning style. I have taught home instruction and tutored high school students in English, math, and science.I have a flexible work schedule.
As an educator I have the opportunity to help my students find their strengths, build on them, and guide them on their future path. This opportunity can also be a challenge. It becomes my responsibility to rise to the challenge and be the person they say was important in shaping their future. I want to be prepared to help students recognize their strengths and how those apply to a profession, how to prepare for the transition from school to the work ... read more

Academic inquiry and standards for achievement serve the self-directed learner's quest for personal and professional success. Additionally, the social and emotional learning model takes educating adults, and even youth, into new dimensions. Its application includes development of the whole person, not just the intellect.

A Little Bit About Me...

In all my years of teaching, I came to the realization that every child is different . When it comes to teaching, I like to learn a little about the child first. Then once I know everything I need to know, I go by what interests the child and I use that to teach them . Although sometimes it is not as simple, I do what ever it is that I have to do to ensure that the child is learning .
I've been working with children since the day I got my first job. I don't know if it is the fact that I am the oldest of 6, or if it is just in my blood to teach . My first job was at a very small day care that consisted of about 14 kids, ages 1 to 12 . I helped the older children with their homework and with the younger children, our day consisted of fun learning games . I also worked at Unlimited Tutoring for 3 years, there I helped tutor children ages 6 to 15 in Math, Reading, English, and History.

My personal teaching philosophy is that there is no teaching without learning. Most classroom studies are at least partly removed from their intended application, for reasons of assuring comprehensive competency and because of the educational structure, i.e. attending school comes in advance of and separately from applying one’s knowledge. However, learning a language, for example and especially while living in it has both a need for constant practice and occasion for immediate application. The broader linguistic community has thusly prioritized practical teaching methods, of which I wish to avail myself.
I am a recent Bachelor of Arts graduate with a double major in Philosophy and Political Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Florham Park, NJ. During the latter part of my college experience, I began teaching in K-12 classrooms. Quickly and suddenly, I realized that I ... read more

In 2004, I started as a math teacher in the New York public schools, as a member of the New York City Teaching Fellows. I worked there for about 8 months. During that time, I began tutoring privately. I quit my position as a teacher in the public schools, because it was too emotionally taxing, but continued to tutor privately. I moved to New Jersey, where I home schooled a student for two years in: math (algebra), world history, biology, english, and spanish. I also continue to tutor privately. I have worked for Brattle Street Coaching, and as an SAT tutor for the Princeton Review.
I like to gauge where the student is then go from there. If a student is having a problem, I try to see where there might be a gap in the backround knowledge, then fill it in, or if there is a problem in their processing of the information, I try to correct it. I do this fairly quickly. I' ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Literacy is the love of my life. I believe in instilling a love for learning in students. In this ever changing world where people switch careers throughout their lifetime, it is important to realize that we are lifetime learners. Learning never ends as such literacy is the source through which we acquire learning of all subject matters. It is important to pass along the love for reading and finding enjoyment and fulfillment from achieving learning goals. My goal for each student is to understand their strengths and weaknesses and meet them where they are. Becoming aware of the individual learning style of each student will help to target their own specific learning needs.
As an undergraduate student of English, I worked in the English Department as a tutor. There, I helped student teachers prepare for writing assessments and students of all subject areas with their writing and re ... read more
