A Little Bit About Me...

As a Lehigh University graduate, I was very much driven to achieve a high level of excellence in education. I earned a BS degree in Computer Science and have worked as a software engineer and tutor. Some of my mathematical skills include algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, probability & statics, discreet math, and differential equations. I am an excellent computer programmer, have a good understanding of physics, and I learned to write well through numerous writing intensive courses. My turoring experience comes from the volunteer work that I did at CareerLink where I tutored GED students. I also tutored friends while I was at Lehigh University.
I love teaching and working with students. My teaching style most closely aligns with the demonstrator style. I show my students how to properly do a task or work through a problem and then I'll help them master the task or problem s ... read more

I believe in constructivism. Students learn more when they make their own learning. They need to see the real world application of the material and how it applies to them. I try to create tasks that are hands-on, use authentic materials, and encourage students to collaborate with others and think outside of the box.
I have taught high school in three different countries: Germany, UK and USA. I am passionate about foreign languages and social studies, and I care about my students. It is my intention to broaden their horizons and help them reach their potential as students and as human beings.

I love working with people, especially children. I have been a Crew Trainer at each job I've had because of my ability to relate, connect and teach others. I am very patient and easy-going. One thing I like to identify is my learner's personality so that way I may cater my teaching style to that of his/her needs. Connecting with the individual and making them feel as thought they can do, and keeping this attitude, is key to helping the student grow. Having a positive academic effect on the students' lives is what I strive to achieve.
At the start of my college career, I began tutoring for Calculus. I received an offer from a Professor at Lafayette who had heard about me. She and her husband had two children who were accellerated two years above their classmates. I tutored both children once or twice a week in both of their respective mathematics courses as well.

I learn visually and like to teach that way. I believe there is a great deal of concepts and memorization in Chemistry. I am not able to memorize all of the subject and would not ask a student to. Instead, explanation and demonstration of the concept, followed by memorization of the rule grants a greater understanding. The rule can then be applied to other areas and is worth much more than a large volume of memorized information. This is possibly more true in the fields of Math and Physics, learning rules and concepts goes a long way. I prefer to patiently explain, draw, or demonstrate the concept at hand then work on problems that further illustrate that concept.
I Studied chemistry at the University of Wyoming. During my years there I helped tutor many friends and friends of friends in the subjects of Chemistry, Math and Physics. Also, I worked as a lifeguard and used my ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I recently graduated from Eastern University as a double major in accounting and finance. My courses in investments, finance, accounting and business have given me a solid base upon which I plan to build my career. I have a strong knowledge of QuickBooks, Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc. During my college career I was a tutor for the entire business department tutoring all accounting and finance classes along with select business classes. Not only did I excel in tutoring but as the TA for finance had taken over teaching for three weeks as the professor became ill. The experience allowed me to learn important skills and to develop the confidence needed to succeed in a competitive environment.
As a tutor at Eastern University I came to the realization that not all students learned in the same way. I have a different teaching style as compared to the teachers putting things into real life ... read more

I loved working with the students in the Mission Acceptance program. I worked as a team leader, so I had the opportunity to work with a group of fellow mentors as well as students, which provided me experience with a variety of different students. I learned that each student has his or her own path to understanding the material and needs to be approached in a unique way. I find that in order to bring out the best in each student, one must understand how he or she receives information and plan accordingly.
I earned my BS in physics and spent over a year working on medical device research. As an undergraduate at the University of Pittsburgh I spent some time in the Physics Undergraduate Lab helping students in the introductory courses. I also spent time as a Team Leader for Mission Acceptance, a program that pairs successful college students with local high school students and provid ... read more

My love of mathematics began while I was in elementary school--I looked forward to those classes and took as many as I could from my high school, Wyoming Area. I had, at one point in middle school, helped to tutor some students in one of my classes. While in college at Susquehanna University, I had the priveledge of tutoring pre-calculus to local Selinsgrove High School students. I enjoy tutoring because it allows me to share my passion for math with others. I believe anyone can comprehend math if given the right tools--learning math is like building a pyramid, you need the base to get to the top, and that is what I try to do, help these students grasp a solid base understanding of the topic. While at Susquehanna, I also participated in study groups to help other students in my classes.
I try to tailor my style to the student. Each student I had tutored when I was in colleg ... read more

Furthermore, I enrolled at King's College to solidify my knowledge of teaching and education and received PA Certification in Secondary Biology.

I have always loved learning and in turn, I love sharing my knowledge with others. I believe everyone can be successful in time if he/she is willing to work for his/her success and has a support system in place for encouragement. As a teacher, I practice extreme patience and positive support for my students. I believe in presenting basic background information to my students and then allowing them to become the major character in the learning process. My role as a teacher is to be the support system to help them learn from mistakes and to encourage them along the way.
I have always had a love of learning that led me to a career in teaching. I have earned two bachelor degrees, a BS in Chemistry (a subject which I have always loved and understood) and a BS in Physics (a subject which gave me great difficulties in high school but a subject which I have come to enjoy).
