Let's make learning fun!!!

I like to do a lot of positive reinforcing and reaffirming.
I have worked with children for over 15 years. During this time I have provide homework help and tutoring in Math, Reading and Spanish. The children that I have worked with range in age from 5 to 17 years old. I have also done an extensive amount of work with infants and toddlers in the field of early learning as a nanny. My experience in working with children of so many ages has helped me to know what steps to implement in order to make children feel comfortable and confident while addressing challenges to learning materials. I have always enjoyed math and reading as a student and spent a short period of time studying Spanish abroad. During my time in college I was even more hands on with the youth enrichment at my church, working as a counselor/mentor for Vacation Bible School and the after school program.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a student from Rutgers University pursuing double major in Electrical and Computer Engineer. As an engineer, I have taken all the Calculus courses and also on top of that required Chemistry and Physics. I was awarded Most passionate about Mathematics award and also was named young scholar of new jersey.
As an Engineer in making I go through this process everyday where sometimes I have to learn and sometimes I have to teach. I work in a team, and try to make connection between material and some real life example. Just to show an example, the pythagorus theorem is really useful to work around were we make use of the hypotenuse to walk less from point a to b rather than going through the path.

My studies have given me practical experience working with children of different abilities and readiness. I sincerely believe it is the teacher's responsibility to adapt lessons to the student's learning style. I strive to create connections to student past lessons and keep difficult concepts in easy, relative terms that simplify information for the student to digest. I prefer teaching lessons through discovery learning and constructivist approaches, and will ask as many questions to my students as my students will to me. Personally, I am considerate, professional, and genuinely caring to each of my student's success. I come from a teaching family, and continue to learn from teachers myself. I feel that because I am still eager to continue to learn new things, I can appreciate a good teacher. I myself need good teachers, and I would not provide a student with anything but that. I am a hard worker and give 110% for every job that needs to be done. While at college, I was a member of the Americorps program in which I completed over 300 hours of community service. During that service, I had roles as both a student and a teacher. I have the experience of working with all types of people and children, and sincerely enjoy working with people in a teaching setting. I am confident that I have what it takes to be the teacher you need.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a Business Administration major, I have had extensive schooling in all realms of business, accounting, and finance. In my earlier years, I had extensive exposure to math of all levels, as well. Additionally, I am very strong in English, even having edited a book and written the foreword for it. During my early college years I was employed in the Tutoring Lab and volunteered at the YMCA; more recently I have tutored individuals on an as-needed basis.
I believe that everyone is teachable, if the student has the desire and the teacher has the commitment. I tend to be a patient teacher, with high standards. I actively question the student, which allows me to challenge the student in my presence, where I am able to guide him/her. While I have predominantly tutored college students, I have also taught adults and children. My sister-in-law is probably my biggest supporter, since ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching is a difficult task. Everyone learns at a different pace and on their own level. Some students are quick learners and their teacher only needs to go over the lesson once; other students need to hear the subject content in a different form to understand it. Having said that, I can't explain my teaching style as a cut and dry formula. The skill level of each student and the way they process information will determine how I will present them with questions and explanations. I don't believe in teaching every student with the same teaching style; I believe in conforming to the skill level of the student so that at the end of the day, they learn the topic we set out to conquer.
As a Mathematics major, I have the drive to solve problems. I have been tutoring for seven years and when I'm not doing it, I miss it. I enjoy helping students 'solve their problems' by teaching them how ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style depends completely upon the level of the student. I will tailor each session to the student's needs. I am a believer in mastering the basics before moving on to the advanced. I also divide (and encourage the student to divide) materials into more manageable steps, making schoolwork much less overwhelming. My goal is for every student I tutor to become more confident and see noticeable improvement. I am very patient and can motivate each student to want to succeed. Having completed many years of education myself, it would be my honor to share my passion for education with others.
While a student at Luzerne County Community College, I was recommended to be a tutor by mathematics professor David Wasilewski. I tutored college students primarily in the fundamentals of algebra and English composition. In 2005, I was awarded the Student Support Service Award for ... read more

As a National Dean's List graduate from Alvernia University, I am driven towards high standards. I am semi-retired. I believe in creating an atmosphere of mutual respect. I use a technique to assess what the student already knows by observing them and asking questions. Understanding their starting point will me help them to take their learning to the next step. By being familiar with their skills sets and their learning needs, I am adding to the student’s skills and knowledge, while respecting their personal learning process. I recently graduated from Eastern University as a double major in accounting and finance. My courses in investments, finance, accounting and business have given me a solid base upon which I plan to build my career. I have a strong knowledge of QuickBooks, Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc. During my college career I was a tutor for the entire business department tutoring all accounting and finance classes along with select business classes. Not only did I excel in tutoring but as the TA for finance had taken over teaching for three weeks as the professor became ill. The experience allowed me to learn important skills and to develop the confidence needed to succeed in a competitive environment.
As a tutor at Eastern University I came to the realization that not all students learned in the same way. I have a different teaching style as compared to the teachers putting things into real life ... read more

I try to tailor my style to the student. Each student I had tutored when I was in college I had basically spoke with them, got to learn what they strong points were, their weaknesses, and areas that needed more base learning. I tailored lesson plans to help fill in their educational gaps, created small weekly assignments, and also helped with their current homework/lesson plan. I believe everyone learns in different ways. Some are more visual, others are more auditory so I tried to not only explain but also show by using whatever tools necessary/applicable (graphs, pictures, charts, etc.)
My love of mathematics began while I was in elementary school--I looked forward to those classes and took as many as I could from my high school, Wyoming Area. I had, at one point in middle school, helped to tutor some students in one of my classes. While in college at Susquehanna University ... read more
