I began my college career at New College of Florida, where I studied both mathematics and chemistry. I was an active participant in the Math Clinic, a free tutoring service open to the Sarasota/Bradenton community. From there, I went to Bollettieri, where I worked regularly for two semesters, tutoring their athletes in different levels of mathematics. As a teacher, I firmly believe in teaching using all modalities. In large group instruction, I speak and use visual aids simultanously, usually color-coding and using images. This is followed up with hands-on experience, when applicable. When tutoring, I work to assess my students primary learning styles and prepare my lesson plan accordingly.
Before, during, and after my college graduation, I tutored fellow students having difficulty in math, particularly Algebra. I absolutely believe that each person learns differently. Some children learn better by sight, others by sound. A good educator is one who is able to provide both types of learning to the child and thereafter pickup on what allows the child to learn the best.
While in undergrad I volunteered with a program at my school where underprivileged children would come in and have a mentor. As a mentor we would help them with homework, take them out for a trip, or just have someone to talk and ask questions to.
