A Little Bit About Me...

I have a BA in Creative Writing, which I have put to use not only in my writing but I am a proofreader to several other beginning author’s stories. They rely on me to fix their grammatical, spelling and usage errors so their writing flows more smoothly. In reading books I enjoy teaching others the overall theme, morals and observations that the author was trying to convey. I have developed my love for math and statistical formulas by applying what I learned in math classes to enjoy following sports teams stats better. I find that using numbers in several different areas promotes interest and learning.

A Little Bit About Me...

As an administrator of a school I oversaw the education of children from Kindergarten through twelfth grade. I have eight years experience teaching algebra I, five years teaching business math. I have eleven years experience teaching English grammar from third grade through twelfth grade. I have taught fourth grade for three years, fifth grade for three years and sixth grade for two years.
My goal in teaching is to provide the student with the tools to discover and learn new concepts and to apply this knowledge to the learning process. I do not beleive in giving answers, but rather helping the student learn how to find the answers. I am very patient and will go over a concept until it is understood by the student. I enjoy children who are eager to learn, but try to instill a desire to acheive.

My undergraduate degree from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan was a major in Home Economics Education and a minor in Spanish. Ten years later I completed my Master of Arts in Teaching in Elementary Education at the same University. I have a total of ten years experience on the elementary, junior high and high school levels. My experience was mostly in private church schools teaching from single grades, all subjects, to multi-grades, all subjects. My teaching style purposefully reflects the great teachers I have had. While I consider my subject and field of study greatly important, I realize that all work and no play kills desire. A subject, especially English, has to come alive; students have to relate. Of course grammar is always the hard part to "dress up," but that's the fun of teaching.
