My comments on tutoring Chess : I have played chess and taken lessons since a young age. My current USCF rating is 1645. I an a student of education and have plenty of experience working with children of all ages.

I have worked for many years at a summer camp in Maine, teaching and caring for children ages 7-16. I am a student of education hoping to become a full-time teacher in the future. My chess experience is extensive, having played for many years. In 2003 I won the Texas State Chess Championship, and later went on to play chess for the University of Miami.

My teaching style is more the cooperative, reasonable method that prevents problems. Children need to have lots of praise and rewards for their work and efforts. It promotes growth and encouragement. I believe that teaching should be a collaborative process. The first step is to listen to the child and try to gain a sense of their own learning process. If you understand how the child learns, you will be better able to help him or her understand new concepts. I believe tutoring is invaluable in this regard, since it provides individual attention. Most classrooms are large, and ill-equipped to focus on each child's individual needs.
My tutoring began in high school, when I tutored younger students in any subject, from Math to English. I learned to love tutoring. I enjoy helping people to realize their full potential.
