My personal style of learning is to learn by doing. I get my students involved in any process and get them to actually do the work so they learn it from experience, not just reading about it and taking for granted they know what is going on. Seeing the steps in action and seeing the final result brings a sense of accomplishment, which helps a student learn the correct way of doing whatever it is they are trying to learn. I have lead many training sessions dealing with a multitude of different topics. I do my homework, and make sure I am fully prepared before any training session. I love working with adolescents. I believe with all of my heart that each teen has the ability to accomplish great things with the proper motivation. I truly believe that children, teens as well as adults learn best by doing. I do not believe in teaching to a particular topic. I believe in teaching to the student and how the individual student learns. I want each one of my student's to succeed in their school environment as well as in their lives. Since January 2008, I have had the opportunity of tutoring at risk 9th, 10th, and 11th graders at Leeds High School's AVID (Achievement Via Individual Determination). I attempt to teach them critical thinking skills, reading skills, as well as studying skills. I have worked with the AVID program while I completed my Masters Program.

I have 20 plus years of teaching experience. I have worked with students from pre-school age to adults. I have taught students with a variety of disabilities and functioning levels from severely impaired to gifted. Many students struggle with relationships and well as their academics. I believe in creating a safe, nuturing environment were a student is able to work at his own pace, at his own level, and feel a bond with his teacher. Setting realistic and obtainable goals with the student is a key factor to success. Measuring and documenting progress allows student, teacher, and family to see a visual record of growth. Addressing multiple intelligences and multiple learning styles are essential for struggling students. Finding a student's best mode of learning increases self-esteem and time on task.

My teaching style caters to all types of learners. Once we have completed a unit, I test my students in three ways. First, there is an objective test. Next, there is an essay or written portion, and finally, there is a culminating creative assessment. I have the best job in the world. It is so exciting to see a student smile when he or she knows they have been succcessful. I have been teaching in Alabama public schools for twelve years. My certification allows me to teach English, drama, speech, and journalism. For the last five years, I have thoroughly enjoyed tutoring students for the language portion of the Alabama High School Graduation Exam.
