A Little Bit About Me...

At our first session, I ask that each student complete a short quiz to determine their learning style (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc). Every child learns differently and I believe that discovering what works best for each student is the first step towards success. Once we figure out what his/her learning style is, I cater to this. If they learn best by reading, I'll prepare worksheets based on what they're learning; if they're hands-on learners, I'll make an activity.
My experience with tutoring began in high school, when I started assisting elementary students with homework through one of my clubs. Throughout the two years I was involved, I regularly helped 6 students, along with 6 students that I met with irregularly. I have experience tutoring children with behavioral issues, learning disabilities (dyslexia, ADHD, ADD), as well as students on the Autism Spectrum. I'm wil ... read more

More About This Tutor...

Growing up in a family that did not value an education, I saw education as a way to make a better life for my self than gangs, drugs, and violence. I am the only one in my family to graduate from high school, then college. I firmly believe that education makes a person better by pursuing it. I achieved an Associates in Science, then two Bachelors of Science degrees. In addition, I earned various certifications in Environmental Health due to my job experiences. I have tutored many science classes, math, algebra, history, archery, martial arts, outdoor survival techniques and wildlife studies. I have also tutored students in the art of playing musical instruments.
I am an essentialist in philosophy, meaning I want the student(s) to learn material that is relevant to their experiences and that they can find useful to their lives. I want to engage them in their learning so that ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have spent the better part of my life either in school or teaching in one form or another. I highly value both the process of learning and of passing on my knowledge. I have intend to make this my life's work and as such have almost always held teaching positions. I tutored fellow students while an undergraduate and after graduation I taught autistic students in math, reading, art, speech therapy and physical education for 5 years. Then, as a graduate student I taught Human Anatomy to undergraduates. Though my own education is in psychology and biology my years of education have provided me with a broad base in the arts, history and literature/writing as well.
I believe that teaching styles need to be flexible to the student. I have worked with a very wide variety of students, from the severely limited autistic youth to the highly gifted medical student. While approach and focus ... read more

More About This Tutor...

As a civil engineering graduate, I spent a lot of time working with mathematics and achieving a higher level of education. I have always enjoyed working with kids especially in mathematics and athletic activities. I have tutored many college students as well as younger students in various subjects including math, English, biology, physics, and graphic design.
I really enjoy working with children in various subjects and activities. I believe all children have a different way of learning and can all find a way that best suites them. My teaching style is based on how the student learns best and what their interests are. I like to incorporate my excitement to teach because students tend to be more interested in learning when you are interested in who they are. I really stress hard work and fun into my lessons so that students will not only learn a lot, but remember it as well.

A Little Bit About Me...

Academic background and professional experience are the first important considerations for an early childhood education teacher. Having undergraduate work geared toward early childhood is a must. Post graduate work in early childhood can only enhance an early childhood educator. Professional experience in the field of early childhood will show the teacher and the school system if working with young children is where the teacher really belongs. A teacher looking good on paper should not be all the considerations given for an early childhood teacher.
I know if my students are learning if I am first using high quality researched based instruction and then progress monitoring my students on a regular basis to see how efficient my instruction was. To break it down more specifically I would pre-test my students, find out what they already know on the subject or concept, because why ... read more
