My comments on tutoring Continuing Education : First Generation College Graduate

I am an Honors Graduate from California State University Stanislaus and I am knowledgeable on many subjects. I have had former experience in tutoring and I am more than willing to work with students of any age. I am proficient in English, Social Science, Study Skills, and many other areas. As an avid reader and excellent writer I am able to work with students on their writing skills at any level.
I am a hard worker and expect a similar attitude from the students I tutor. I tend to work out the problem for the student on one problem and then I watch as they go through a similar one to ensure they have understood. This repetative practice has proven efficient. I also tend to make the student practice more than the required assignments needed to be accomplished to ensure a firm grasp of the material.

Having homeschooled my children (eldest is attending a top 20 public university)and volunteering extensively in the school community, I have become familiar with a wide variety of learning styles. My legal background has prepared me for tutoring in that I am able to effectively communicate with the student and present the material in a manner conducive to a learning experience(similar to explaining legalese to a lay person). I strive to include various learning styles when working with children. Some students learn best by listening or writing, while others need movement or tactile experiences to help in comprehension.
