As a Civil Engineering student at the University of Michigan, I took classes that led to proficiency in math and science, as well as general classes that have given me a well-rounded education. I have been tutoring in Physics and Calculus for the past six years. I have also been playing guitar for 10 years, and have been giving lessons for four years.
I absolutely love teaching. I have considered continuing my education and pursuing a secondary education teaching degree. I believe I am patient and kind, and provide a learning experience that is most beneficial to all. I think that students can have fun while learning, and I try to combine fun into my teachings. Although so many students don't believe it, anyone can solve a math problem! They just need to understand how to look at the problem the right way. While completing my BBA and MA degrees at Wichita State University, I worked for Student Support Services, a TRIO program located on campus. For eight years I tutored low-income and first generation university students serviced by the program. By utilizing innovative tutoring techniques, I achieved a high success rate. In fact, several of my students graduated from university with honors, a goal initially thought to be unachievable. Statistics have revealed that only thirty three percent of students graduate from university, a dismal situation to say the least. I have an overwhelming desire to increase this percentage exponentially. Only then can we truly say that the children of today are the leaders of tomorrow.

A Little Bit About Me...

Education is a key to a high quality of life. I have earned a BS in Chemical Engineering (math, science, chemistry) and a BA in Ministry and Leadership (Bible, management, essay writing). In addition, I lack 3 hours from completing a Master's Degree in Education. My tutoring experience has primarily been with students working to earn their GED. However, I have tutored and mentored several people over time on various subjects. My teaching experience includes a teaching a weekly Bible class last year.
I enjoy teaching and there is no greater reward for a tutor than to share knowledge to others and to see students grow in knowledge and confidence. I like to make learning as fun and with as little stress as possible. The environment should be conducive to learning. I try to adapt my style to the way in which the student can learn the most efficiently and most effectively. Enco ... read more

Since I have tutored for several years, I've found that every person learns slightly differently. The key to how I teach is to figure out how that person best learns. There is no such thing as a stupid person, just one who hasn't been taught in a way that they can understand yet. I am a firm believer in never giving up on someone, particularly when I know that they can do it. Most just need a little help and encouragement to figure out that they ARE smart and they CAN do it, and that's what I'm here for.
I actually started tutoring while I was still in college, helping out one of the science/math teachers, and proctoring classes when she needed me to. I have a BS in Natural Science with a biology emphasis, from which I've gained knowledge in most areas of science and math. Besides helping to teach in college, I also was a tutor for three years, in several subjects including Chemist ... read more

I have previously taught secondary Mathematics and Science in New York. I love teaching both Mathematics (including all areas of Math: Calculus, Trigonometry, Geometry, Algebra and Statistics) and Science (Biology, Chemistry).
I work with student(s) in such a way as to demonstrate the problem or similar problems and then break down the essential steps so as to make it intelligible to the student(s). Sometimes, while defining a problem, it is also important to look at the problem critically and identify why certain attributes are arranged in a certain order. Good visualization is also very important in Mathematics and the Sciences; therefore, I m ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Although I never actually taught a class, I was able to learn how to adapt to the individual needs of a student. Some learn visually, others with games, practice, hands on... and the list continues. I find starting out with the basics and working up to the harder subjects is important. So, with the assignment given I also ask other questions of the student to see if they understand the more basic concepts of the problem as well as answer the question. I find this helps them understand the process more completely and the student ends up giving more complete answers on assignments and exams. At the end of each session I hope the person I am helping better understands the material and can gain a little confidence about the subject.
