Since graduating from my undergraduate program in 2007, I have had a passion for teaching and learning. My first teaching experience was working in Camden, New Jersey. I served as an intern art teacher for at-risk first through third graders in an after school/summer school program. Shortly thereafter I started my Master's program, where I integrated my passion for teaching into my capstone project. I was given the opportunity to teach at-risk fifth through eighth graders basic life and business skills, which included everything from how to calculate simple interest to how to apply for college. Around the same time, my goddaughter, now eleven, was diagnosed with learning disabilities. I have a BS is Mathematics, which has given me the knowledge and confidence to teach various levels of Mathematics. I have been working with the public for over 20 years, in that time I have worked with young adults as well as mature adults. I have also done some substitute teaching in elementary and high school levels. My experience is in food service and have dealt with many walks of life. I am a very committed member of Lincoln Kiwanis International as well as a member of the Central United Methodist Church. While I was a student at the University of Missouri I received a 5 hour A in Chemistry.
All people can learn, you just have to find a way to make the student understand the information, if its hands on or reading or a combination of both. Children need the tools and the direction and if you provide them both, the sky is the limit. I want to make a difference in a child's life.
