My first teaching experience was as a high school senior where I was given the opportunity to teach a small group of 5th graders as part of the Missouri A+ program. We began with division, quickly moving into linear and nonlinear algebra, before touching on the fundamentals of complex numbers, graph theory and trigonometry, before concluding with a derivation of the quadratic formula and its applications. I spent three semesters as the academic chair for my fraternity enforcing study hours for fraternity brothers with lower GPA’s; tutoring students in algebra, calculus, physics, and computer science, among other fields. Learning should be fun. I strive to make a point of this when ever I teach. I do this in both lectures and tests. I find a little humor takes the edge off test taking and allows the student to concentrate on the subject matter without being nervous.

I have a very unique way of teaching. My key to success works on a system of discipline and rewards. I find creative ways to make the most mundane tasks fun to accomplish. I think the number on rule in teaching strategy should be finding a way to make the process enjoyable. I believe most kids that do poorly in school have an incredibly hard time putting their hearts into tutoring. In my professional experience, it is almost like pouring salt on the wound when they don't do well in school and then have to suffer through more torture after school.

There, I tutored two fourth grade ESL students, an Italian boy and a Korean girl, primarily in math and reading.
