A Little Bit About Me...

I have trained students in a laboratory, restaurant and in the home. I graduated from college with honors and have succeeded in statistics, algebra 2, calculus 1, biology 1, chemistry 1, English literature, professional writing, civics, sketching/painting and classical guitar
It's imperative to listen and understand a students challenges. Reviewing their previous work and giving a current test is a good indicator of the situation. I believe in practice and examples as the clearest path to success. I don't hand deliver answers and I make the process towards answers engaging. I make sure the time and place are conducive to active and non-distractive learning. I relay the importance and relevance of the material. I recap previous lessons and try to integrate them into current assignments. I always value and respect people and expect the same of my students.

Since I have the opportunity to work one-on-one with students on a daily basis I try to tailor my teaching style to each student. When students are more visual I try to use photos or stories to explain concepts. However, when students learn better by reading I allow them to do so, and discuss the reading after they have had time to absorb the information. I feel like I have to adjust to each student's individual learning style when trying to teach.
I am currently working towards my Masters Degree in School Counseling and work as an intern at McCaskey High School. In addition to counseling I am interested in tutoring students, as I believe with a solid education anything is possible. I have worked at Huntington Learning Center in the past and enjoyed the tutoring experience. There is no better feeling then helping a student reach his/her potential.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have experience tutoring both young children and young adults in private and public settings. I spent a school year teaching two students in grades 2 and 5. I lived in their home in the Philippines and taught all subjects of an American curriculum. I have also tutored kids in a public school (South Ward Elementary School, Longview, TX). My job was to tutor kindergarteners who needed to learn English number recognition and placement, and to work with children in 5th grade who needed individual help to master math and reading skills. I recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree in History. During my time in college I developed my composition and research skills, and tutored college exchange students to help them develop these skills.

While I enjoy business, working with children is my passion, hence why I am pursuing my teaching certification. I believe the best way to teach students any skill is to let them have hands on experience with it. As an example, in order to learn business skills, students need to practice the skills and understand their relevance in the real world.
I have a strong business background, with an MBA, CPA, and CIA. However, as a student at Susquehanna University, I also volunteered at least 2 days a week at a local preschool where I helped teach the students. In addition, I worked at a local elementary after-school program 2 days a week. I am currently pursuing my teaching certification through Drexel University.
