I am very much a hands-on instructor. Long ago, I heard the Chinese Proverb “I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.” These words embody my personal teaching philosophy. I utilize a varied and balanced set of teaching strategies that will meet the needs of all types of learners. First, I determine the student’s preferred learning style (auditory, visual, or kinesthetic) and tailor my lessons accordingly. I then try as much as possible to make our lessons as relatable to the student’s likes and interests. Let’s face it, when the work is difficult and doesn’t relate to anything practical… what’s the point? A Little Bit About Me...

As an undergraduate student I was always in the top ten percentile of my math, chemistry and biology classes, and as a result, I tutored fellow college students in those respective subjects. After earning my bachelor degree in biology, I worked as an educator at the South Carolina Aquarium where I taught interactive classes to kindergarten, middle school and high school students. Science can seem to be like a foreign language to the uninitiated, but at its essence science is simply a way of thinking about the world and asking questions.
