Many people find math, statistics, computers, and/or SPSS to be intimidating or scary. I would help the student overcome this fear. I have been using SPSS for about 25 years. I feel I am pretty comfortable using it. SPSS, I feel, is best taught practicing it's use on the computer and not so much read out of a book. SPSS is a programming language and I mainly use syntax to run it but can also use it via pull-down menus. I will work with the student and teach them either or both ways to learn SPSS.

I enjoy working with all age groups and am able to interact very effectively with students from diverse backgrounds. Although as teacher/tutor/trainer I am keen to share the knowledge I have with students, I believe in challenging my students and encouraging them to not be afraid to learn through making mistakes. I also believe students learn in various ways, some are visual learners etc… while some are not; therefore my teaching style involves finding out what kind of learner the student is and adjusting my teaching style to adapt to his/her style of learning.
My Masters degree in education and several years of a combination of teaching, training and tutoring with persons of various age groups and diverse backgrounds have prepared me to work well with any age group. I convey to each student a never give up attitude and show confidence in their ability to understand the material. Each problem will be explained to the student and I will encourage every student to ask questions. After the student gains confidence in working problems together then I will have the student work a similar problem by themselves to confirm their level of understanding. After the student works the problem I will go over it and correct any mistakes in their work .
I have an engineering background with a BS and Masters degree in Electrical Engineering. An engineering degree requires a significant background in math and science. Great Question. I have been in classes where I found learning a challenge. This is what makes me unique as a teacher. I build a relationship with the student. I do my best to not only explain the material, but how they can possibly use it in the future. I also have the best patience. I will go over something over and over again, searching in my own mind for a different to present the material so it sticks.
I have always been a good teacher. I scored very well on the SAT exams, and I have extensive tutoring experience. I scored in the upper 10 percentile on the Mathmatics portion of the SATs. I also have been studying non stop for the CPA exam. I would love to pass on knowledge to someone else. Tutoring is rewarding.

A Little Bit About Me...

Simply put my teaching style has always been to make the student comfortable with statistics. I find many students are petrified of the thought of having to understand what all those Greek symbols mean. The way I teach is to bring statistics into the student’s world. I do this by showing how statistics are used in the real world. The end result of my classes has always been that the students leaving the class have an understanding of what statistics can do for them. They may not all go on to be PhDs in the field but each one of the will take a closer look at the data that crosses their work station each day.
My academic credentials include a BA from Hanover College and a MBA from the University of Louisville. I have been an Adjunct Professor University of Louisville 1994- 2008. I taught Business Statistics (Management 201) and Operations Management (Management 401). I also ... read more

My preferred style of teaching is student-lead. I believe in the Socratic method, but appreciate following a curriculum, as well. I volunteer at a Montessori school and I know that getting learners of all ages interested and excited about a topic is the key to retention.
