My goal in teaching is to provide the student with the tools to discover and learn new concepts and to apply this knowledge to the learning process. Obtained in my last job, showing an individual a three step process when learning something new. First would be to show and instruct on the basic level. Then after I felt the individual had grasped the knowledge, have them repeat the knowledge back with minimal assistance. Once the individual has completed an appropriate amount of the new task with the assistance of then instructor, they would then complete or demonstrate the task back to the instructor with no help at all. If they provide the correct answer or demonstrate the correct knowledge, they have completed the required learning. I would then test them on the material and encourage the individual to go back so the knowledge is fresh on their minds.

My goal is to use a variety of methods in order to facilitate learning and retention. These methods will vary student-to-student. HOW I teach, however, remains constant for all students. Specifically, I start with the standards: what needs to be learned. Working backwards, I break the standards up into smaller concepts. Once the concepts are explained to the student, and the student understands the concepts, repetition begins in order to facilitate retention. Smaller concepts are then tied into larger ones. Over the last 4-6 years I've had to teach coworkers the intricacies of engine technology (basic hydrocarbon breakdown and nitrogen depleting systems) to basic geometry and electrical circuits ( from creating concentric bends in pipe to large scale automated systems).
