I am a 60-year old man who has taught every subject at every grade level as an artist in the schools for over 35 years. I currently substitute in all the grades in Hart County so I have had to demonstrate knowledge of every subject at every grade level. I have been in the classrooms of public schools every day for about 60% of my adult life. I hold a Bachelor's Degree from Oberlin College with a major in Biology and minors in Chemistry and Math. I have tutored a lot over the years, and whereas I am comfortable handling any subject, my particular strong point is Math. I am able to find the way that students can understand the principles being learned (and this way is different for each student). I believe it is very important for children to learn to enjoy the process of learning. Every child learns and relates to new information differently, so teachers must use appropriate teaching strategies to ensure the success of their students. My goal is to help students to make better grades, but teach them HOW to learn where they can become independent lifelong learners. I graduated from WKU with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, and during this time I worked at an elementary school during their after school program helping tutor and supervise the children. After I graduated, I substituted for several school districts in mostly elementary grades, but I also worked in middle & high school. I am currently working half-time as a reading intervention teacher. My strongest subject is math and english.

I have always believed that each child is truly unique. I However do not believe that all education and forms of it, should be uniform. Working with children with special needs has allowed me to be able to get to know the student and adjust the curriculum so that the child will be able to benefit the most from! As a communication disorders major I have acquired an understand and love for working with children. During my internship I was able to work one-on-one with children who have language disabilities. It was through this internship that I learned what a reward it can be to help others, and to see them flourish intellectually.

While in college, I earned a BS degree in Education with minors in Science and Biology. I have taught for 15 years in inner city St. Louis, MO, 5 years at Job Corps in Kentucky, and 3 years in alternative schools in Kentucky. I presently teach students, grades 7-12 in an Ombudsman Alternate School in Nashville, TN. I have experience in tutoring students in the areas of science, mathematics, biology, and history. I enjoy teaching and working with students. I believe all children can learn according to their individual learning styles. I enjoy seeing success when the students understand the material and achieve to their greatest potential.
