A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that stepping through any problem and trying to find a "hint" to help work through similar problems will contribute to a student succeeding.
I was a tutor for math and science while attending college. My work consists of graphing, defining requirements through mathematics, statistical analysis, and many other technical services. I have worked as a ventilation engineer, an industrial hygienist, and am currently a manager for a consulting company. My math skills brought me to Washington, D.C. to present a statistical analysis to the National Mining Association for comments to a proposed regulation.

Math Rocks!!! Help me spread the love.

I have had experience tutoring and teaching Algebra I and II from a being a teacher. I feel very comfortable with all types of math. I have worked in small and large group environments to one-on-one. From the engineering background, I have insight into real world uses for math. While working as an engineer, I taught skiing and group fitness class, two very diverse groups of people to work with. From those experiences I decided to switch career paths to math teaching. I have tutored off and on while getting the math education degree. A Little Bit About Me...

I like the tutoring environment because I like seeing individual progress. It is easier to assess where the child is. I believe that the basics are essential to moving forward in education. Memorization of math facts makes it easier for a child to learn new material because he isn't bogged down. I don't believe enough emphasis is placed on arithmetic in today's schools. Basic arithmetic skills make story problems easier. Types of story problems need to be practiced, not just thrown in at the end of a chapter without much information on how to do it. I am patient and punctual. I like being with students.
