Vocals is one of my top subjects! I've led choirs in church since 1982 and have been training individuals since I was a staff instructor at Belmont Academy. Besides working as a vocal coach, I have also been hired as a public speaking tutor.

As a teacher of piano, organ and voice, I specialize in beginning through intermediate level, and accept students of all ages. I also teach most styles, including jazz & pop. Theory and improvisation are text (method) based, since I believe it's crucial to have an intellectual comprehension of the principals of harmony, melody and form. I have always told my classes, "Learning can be fun; and if it's not, you may not be doing it right." Of course, that does not mean learning isn’t work; but part of growing up – and selecting a career – is learning that work can be enjoyable. I should mention that it is not my way to enforce memorization for the sake of it. If you understand concepts, that is much better. I always say “an example is the embodiment of a rule”. I am always committed to a student’s success; and will not let him or her give up. The biggest thrill in teaching is watching a student suddenly understand a concept.
