My comments on tutoring Elementary : I can problem solve and work with the student, many different ways, until we come up with a strategy that "clicks" with them.

I have tutored fellow classmates in HS. I've taught my nieces and nephew to understand and love mathematics, as well as respect science, which is really just the real-world application of mathematics. I can explain many abstract topics in tangible ways. I love when I see that twinkle in someone's eye when something clicks and they grab onto the topic they once didn't comprehend.

I believe that you meet students where they are. I strive to individualize each lesson to what the student or group needs, not just a grammar lesson that’s on the next page. My interest in mathematics and physics led me to my college program of Civil Engineering. Along the way to earning my BS in Civil Engineering, I was exposed to a broad range of mathematics and different areas of physics. Positive reinforcement is the key. When a student sees that an adult is taking an honest interest in them, then they are not only more willing to learn, but more able. Telling a child "I know you can do it" instead of "you can do better than that" is imperative. Even the most tempermental or unmotivated student can be helped as long as that personal connection is there.
