I want to make a difference in a child's life. To help them understand and know the subject matter they are not understanding.I use many techniques to help a child learn. First learning should be fun, which I try to create for the child. I present the subject in a creative way to help the student be motivated and engaging. I believe all students learn differently and what we need to reach all students is to find out how they learn best and find a way to reach them that they will prove to be successful in. There are a lot of ways to reach students and when you find that one perfect way it all clicks.
I have worked in after school programs tutoring children throughout my college career. Then after my college career I taught 3rd Grade at Peaks Mill Elementary School in Frankfort, KY. As an education major at Berea College, I volunteered my services as a tutor three nights a week in addition to my student teaching and education courses. I was also a Pre-Kindergarten teacher during the summer terms while I was in college. I am certified to teach all subjects grades K-5. I have my masters degree in Reading and Literacy Instruction. I currently teach Pre-Kindegarten in Lexington.
I love to learn, which is why I love teaching children. Every child learns differently, because of this, teaching is a learning process as well! I believe that students learn best through hands on activities that allow them to internalize the concepts they are struggling with. As an undergraduate, I spent three years in the education program. I clocked over 100 hours in public schools observing, mentoring, or otherwise working with children in elementary, middle, and high school. I also spent two years as a Writing Center Consultant where I worked with college students on their own writing. I was an ESL tutor for one semester where I worked with two small groups of Japanese speaking students on their English skills.
