I utilize elements of each of the five teaching styles; however, I prefer the I Do, We Do, You Do style of learning. I firmly believe in providing clear instruction and demonstration of each concept. Then, the student and I work together to master a concept. After that, I provide the student an opportunity to practice and demonstrate his/her mastery of the material in a variety of situations. If the student still needs help, I reteach. I believe in positive reinforcement. Every student can succeed. No one succeeds if he/she feels unimportant or unsuccessful. A Little Bit About Me...

I did not realize I wanted to become a teacher until after I took a long-term substitute job while looking for employment. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and decided to further my education so that I could continue to teach. My undergraduate degree is in Mass Communications and Public Relations, which has helped me relate to all different students effectively and in different ways. My graduate degree is an Alternative Master's Degree in Secondary Language Arts. I have taught English in grades 7-12 for the past 14 years, and also taught Journalism and English as a Second Language while tutoring at night and in the summers.

My approach to teaching can be best described as adaptive. My varied experience has enabled me to develop different methods for different situations. There is no "typical student," and it is my belief that a good tutor or teacher adapts his or her methods to an individual's learning style—not the other way around. However, there are some constants in the teacher-student relationship.
