A Little Bit About Me...

I have privately tutored students that recently arrived from Japan in English with a focus on conversation to enable them to quickly feel comfortable in a new country. As they attained conversation skills I changed my focus to education based teaching with a focus on understanding the classroom teacher and being able to participate in the classroom discussion. A Little Bit About Me...

For two years I was an ESL teacher in Japan with the company English Club. While there, I acquired unique experience in the field of education. Not only did I have to design and tailor each class to the student's abilities and age, but I had to come up with creative ways to relay the material given the constrains on communication. I also have tutoring experience with 826 Michigan in Ann Arbor, which I did once a week for two years. I am currently a freelance writer for the Metro Times and write my own fiction, so I am able to tutor any field in the Humanities. In high school, I was proficient in Math, earning a 5 on the BC Calculus exam. I became conversational in Japanese and could tutor that as well.

After graduating from DePauw University, my first teaching experience was at Rose Elementary Open School, which is a Detroit Public School. I was a building substitute. I worked there for one year until I found a regular postion at a public school academy in Inkster, MI. I was moved around in the system because they hired too many teachers. I found my permenant teaching position at Aisha Shule, an African-centered public school academy, where I have been teaching for at least six years now. I have taught Kindergarten to 5th grade at Aisha Shule, but I have spent the most time teaching in my 2nd-3rd grade split.
