I am a certified Secondary Science teacher. I have taught in the public school system for sixteen years. I have taught multiple topics in science using various methods which include the following: direct, hands-on, inquiry, visual, audio and artistry. I promote learning through positive reinforcement as I believe a student is motivated more with praise than criticism. A Little Bit About Me...

As an adjunct faculty instructor at the University of North Alabama, I teach students in a public speaking course through a series of class lectures, individual and group activities, live performances, examinations, and out of class assignments. I work on skills such as audience and situational analysis, research, organization, delivery, body language, and listening. My goal is to make my students more at ease with public speaking by teaching them how to be successful at it in a variety of situations. My activities and assignments are meant to challenge their critical thinking skills while improving their performance skills and help me to offer more individualized instruction. While teaching 9th grade world history in Haleyville, I covered the time period from roughly 1500 to present. I taught them about the rise out of the “dark ages” and world exploration, the Renaissance and ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

All children can learn, but it is my job, as a teacher, to figure out which learning style suits each particular child. Once you find that learning style, I always find that the students enjoy learning. Learning can be (and should be) enjoyed. I want my students to know that there is not just one set way of doing things. I am also a firm believer in positive reinforcement. I look for positive aspects in every student, and I praise that student for their hardwork and dedication.
I graduated Athens State University in 2005 with a BS in Elementary Education (K-6). After graduation, I became a substitute teacher for six months. In 2006 I was hired on by Decatur City Schools. I have taught kindergarten, first grade, and second grade for Decatur City Schools. I am currently employed with Decatur City Schools as an aide. Children are so important and shouldn't be overlooked or neglected. I have a heart for children, and that heart has grown larger now having three of my own. I believed we have to cultivate their minds with positive influences and make learning fun and interactive. I am understanding and patient;I also know that (from the experience with my oldest child) sometimes it takes a little one on one, teacher to student for them to grasp rules or principles.I enjoy and love tutoring, and it gives me great joy to see children and young adults succeed.
There are times when we need someone else to show us our potential and the talents we have. I was blessed to have someone who showed me my abilities in relation to my character and became a tutor for peers and children younger than me starting at the age 11.Prior to graduating High School I completed Algebra 2/ Trig. I am currently seeking my B ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from one of the top teaching schools in the nation (according to NCATE), and have a degree in elementary and special education. I specialized in math education, but am also qualified to teach English, science, and social studies. I have worked with children as young as 2 years old and as old as 15 in a formal setting. I have helped children go from hating a subject to being successful and loving it.
I first and foremost believe that every child can learn, and I refuse to entertain any idea that says otherwise. I have found that a constructivist approach works best for most children, and I will always try this approach first. I try to make learning as hands on and relevant to the real world as possible.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always wanted to be a teacher. I began tutoring while I was still in high school. I earned my BS in Elementary Education in 1980. I have tutored students of all ages in different subjects. Most of my tutoring experience has been in math and reading. I have tutored students for all sections of the Alabama High School Graduation Exam. I have been a homebound and home-school teacher, as well as a classroom teacher.
I love to help children learn! It is so rewarding to see the reaction of a child who suddenly understands what he has been trying to learn. I try to help my students build confidence in themselves by helping them realize that they do have the ability to learn. I want every child to know he is loved and special.

More About This Tutor...

As a graduate of the University of Louisville I feel I have developed a knowledge base to further my career. I earned a BA in a subject that I greatly enjoy to study, History. Within the arts I was able to focus on humanities and cultural interaction. Along with these classes I took many general courses to broaden my focus beyond my degree. Most of my college career I was reading, researching, and writing papers that furthered my written communication skills. During the last three years I have worked in a leadership/teacher role to help people develop their knowledge base.
In school I took a class that taught us that everyone learns in a different way. Just like how everyone sees things from different perspectives. After taking that class I realized that there is not just one way to teach or learn. I feel learning should be educational but fun. Repetition is also important. These a ... read more
