Teaching allows me to fulfill what I believe to be a fundamental responsibility of biologists: to communicate information to the public so they can make informed decisions regarding the animal sciences. There are basic biological principles that should be understood by college-educated citizens. Among these are the process of animal sciences and a basic understanding of physiology, the interdependence of biological systems, levels of organization in biology, basic human anatomy and physiology, and the basics of scientific decision-making. I also want students to appreciate and value biological diversity and to leave my class with an increased sense of stewardship for the earth.

I feel that I can relate to children because I am also a child at heart. I believe in constant verbal quizzing and repitition as a means to develop the child's ability to retain knowledge and call it forth at will. I have learned from past work experiences that all people learn differently be it either visual, kinetic (hands-on), or verbal (by listening). By learning the child's learning type you can tell which method appeals to them and can create a learning environment to encourage their growth at a faster rate. I also have a history in the theatrical arts and vocal music performance which can assist in grasping the child's attention during those times of relaxed focus.
