A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored fellow classmates in the past throughtout middle school and high school. Although I am not certified to teach, I have taken quite a few teaching curriculum courses while attending North Carolina State University. I have the ability to teach and accomodate different learning styles with various age groups from the Pre-K level to high school ranging from elementary students to adults. As a history major, I have a desire to learn more and teach more about the past. I have learned so much about the present through studying the past. I have written numerous papers and completed projects while in college. These will help me to teach students how to organize, prepare, and excel in history.
I believe in teaching according to the curriculum. However, I will also pull in information from other historical and academic sources that will enhance the student's learning experience. I believe in allowing the student to prove their capabilities by allowing them to demonstrate their knowledge in different ways. I believe students should take exams but they are not the only way I test students understanding of the material.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught in the public schools of Charlotte for 32 years. After retiring from the public system, I have taught the past 7 years in private Christian education. I am now retired. My experience has been with 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students in all subject areas. My degrees are in Elementary Education and Administration. I enjoy working with students on a one-on-one basis.
My teaching style is fairly laid back. I believe that students learn in a more effective manner when they are not under a lot of stress. I have been very successful in this method. I expect much from my students , but go about it a way that is fun and not intimidating to them. I like to joke with the students. I believe that all children can become successful.

I have a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Science from North Carolina State University where I graduated Magna Cum Laude. I have a North Carolina teaching license for Kindergarten through Sixth grade. I student taught fourth grade students for an entire year; taking over all subjects and teaching them to students. I worked at Elohim Center tutoring the kids at an after school homework center in Hartsville, SC. I also worked at Hartsville School of Performing Arts for a short time period. However I provided assistance to the teachers and mentored the children that had potential, but didn't have the extra push in life to motivate them to be more. I worked at Billie Hardee Home for Boys in Darlington, SC as a volunteer I provided teen age boys the assistance in tutoring them with math, reading, and science. I have an extensive background in math and science. I took AP Calculus in high school, and physics,statistics and calculus in college. I have also taught middle school science,K-12 art,and biology, chemistry and algebra to high school students, and subbed for geometry, algebra and algebra II, as well as numerous other subjects. My tutoring experience began back in university, where I tutored several fellow students in English, writing and math.
