Master Social Studies Teacher

My style uses a dialectic approach using questions and answers so that students discover the answer on thier own. I also use tecnology to enhance learning.
I have been teaching for several years at the High School and University level. I have extensive experience with community college students and students who require extra prep for college level classes. I currently teach at Tallahassee Community College. A Little Bit About Me...

I am the author of five historical novels and a number of articles, poems and short stories. I occasionally do short “residences” teaching Language Arts and Drama to special needs students in k-12 schools for VSA Arts of Florida. My graduate studies emphasized American and Tudor/Stuart History. My doctorate included a Criminal Justice minor. I regularly teach writing and grant writing seminars to adults, usually through libraries on weekends or in the evening.
I believe everyone will respond well to individualized instruction when the tutor studies the student's learning style and offers the information in the form best suited to each learner. I am patient and encouraging with students. I work hard to find ways to present a subject so that each learner will find it interesting.

As a graduate of The Ohio State University I was very driven to assist other individuals whenever I could to complete their education and help them in any way I possibly could. I have taught both children and adults private piano lessons. I taught history and other subjects for 2 1/2 years as a daily and long-term substitute teacher in secondary schools. For one year I directed a public library story-time program for preschool children. I worked two years as a middle school Library Media instructor. I wrote curriculum and taught computer literacy for four years in a prison GED program. My undergraduate and graduate degrees conferred honors. A Little Bit About Me...

I love working with children of all ages. I really like elementary age children. I have a hands-on approach to education. I want kids to get their hands into activities so that they may retain things longer. Now I do realize that not every student is hands-on. That is the responsibility of a teacher or tutor to find out what works for each student and set the envioronment for each learning experience.
