More About This Tutor...

After receiving my BFA in Dance from the University at Buffalo, I got my first professional dancing gig with Carnival Cruise Lines. I did 4 8 month contracts with Carnival, and 1 contract with Princess Cruises traveling to Mexico, Eastern & Western Caribbean, Australia, and the Polynesian Islands. After my time at sea, I was selected to be a full time character/parade performer for Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fl. You may have seen me in "Trolley" "Celebrate the Season" "Disney's Electrical Parade" "Hoedown Happening" "Celebrate a Dream Come True Parade" and "Countdown to Fun Parade." After a full year of performing in the parks, I was asked to go on tour with Feld Entertainment's "Phineas and Ferb the Best Live Tour Ever!" Where I portrayed the role of "Milly" the Fireside Girl. I was asked to rejoin tour this summer as the role of dancer/tumbler.

I have learned through my four years of education different materials, techniques and hands on experiences to help students retain information.
I have always loved working with children and helping them grow as a person. I am patient, passionate and enthusiastic when helping children. I actively engage each student through the use of manipulatives, technology and fun hands on learning activities to fit each student’s individual needs. More About This Tutor...

I have spent most of my working years with with children and have found it to be the most enjoyable and rewarding experience there is!! I have learned that patience, understanding, and willingness are not only essential to a learning environment, but that without those qualities present the learning process will be stifled. In my experiences, it has been crucial that the student or child felt comfortable, important, listened to and responded to without judgment. I am passionate about teaching and I care about those I work with. I realize the importance of a positive role model or educator and understand the seriousness of a teaching or tutoring position. One educator can affect a students self-esteem and learning experience and it is my goal to create an environment where each student feels important, comfortable making mistakes, and confident and capable of learning and progression.

I finished my degree by going to summer and night school; I graduated in 1979. I was the first in my family to go to college and I am very proud of that. I have become a much better writer and am much more aware of grammar through writing reports, technical papers and SOPs. For a couple of years I volunteered for Literacy Volunteers because of my love of reading.
I like working with children. They are so appreciative and excited when they learn and figure out a new word or anything. I am easy going and very supportive. GIven a good learning atmosphere, good support, encouragement and enthusiasm and children can learn. Everyone learns in different ways; in a one-on-one situation that can be discovered and lessons designed to best help the child.

A Little Bit About Me...

My philosophy around human learning and knowledge retention involves relationships. Human beings are connected to each other and to all wisdom. Establishing healthy and loving relationships with students and their families facilitates that all key players gain knowledge and are afforded the opportunity to develop deep understandings of concepts taught, increase retention time and improve retrieval. I embrace the National Boards for Professional Teaching Standards five core propositions. The first indicates that accomplished teachers know their students and know each of their students’s learning styles and needs. Adults responsible for children’s learning must make the effort to know all that might help them understand their students’ strengths and build on those strengths.
I have earned two Masters degrees in education as well as National Boards Certification. My GPA has been b ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that students learn best when they can put meaning behind what they learn. I do my best to answer the question, "When am I ever going to use this?" I have found that my best teaching moments have been out of the formal classroom, when I am working in a one-on-one setting with my student. I can personalize their lesson so that they get the most out of their time with me. My ultimate goal is to work hard with your son or daughter so that they become an independent learner and do not have to rely on me to be successful.
I have a tendency to push myself, I was persuing a double major in college in Math and Musical Theater but made a last minute decision to focus on my math career. I then pushed myself to achieve a master's degree in Secondary Education in only a year. I began tutoring in college when I decided that I wanted to go into teaching. I gained experiences tut ... read more
