I like to be interactive- when I'm teaching I prefer to work through a problem with a student together the first time, letting the student more or less watch me. The second time through, we approach the problem with a little more weight placed on the student. The third time I ask the student to attempt the problem on his/her own, and I'm available for questions.
I have tutored classmates and friends throughout college and after in science and math disciplines. My younger sister struggled in school and I assisted her with all disciplines from grades K-12. Teaching is not something I had initially aspired to but found I am a teacher and motivator by nature. I love the challenge of figuring what pieces, educational, each student is missing and helping them fill the their gaps to reach the next level and have things come together for them. I recently graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a B.S. in environmental science and a concentration in sociology and anthropology. I have served as the editorial assistant for the Applied Environmental Education and Communications journal for the last year and a half.
