My comments on tutoring ACT : Math and Science portions only!

Very much based on working with what the student knows. I tend to start by having them explain to me what they are doing and what they think. I then provide some guidance and walk through a sample problem with them. I ask that they try another problem like it on their own and ask questions to prompt them as they work.
I started tutoring in high school for extra credit. I have primarily tutored in mathematics and general chemistry! I tutored a girl in Algebra 1 for a year, helped my best friend and her Mom with college mathematics, and worked through college algebra with my husband. In college I was a teachers assistant for general chemistry 1 and tutored in quantitative chemical analysis. Since then I have tutored a gentlemen for the math portion of his GED. I come from a family of teachers and have always felt that teaching was one of the most important professions because it can have such a positive effect on the lives of others. I began tutoring students in math when I was in high school and found that my patience, easy-going nature, and ability to explain complex topics in simple terms made me a natural teacher. During my training at INSE (Institut National des Sciences de l'Education), University of Lome, I had a two-academic year classroom teaching performance inturnship at Agbalepedo Public High school. A Little Bit About Me...

My experience as a teacher has been gained through my work at Easter Seals, a pediatric physical therapy center, for which I have taught many children skills in life, communicating, and other various skills. I enjoy helping students learn the concepts of mathematics/statistics and helping them to understand how to use these concepts in the real world. I believe the best way to learn is peer-to-peer learning. As an auto-didact I have the study skills necessary to regurgitate information as taught by the current institutional models. This is an uncreative and highly unnatural way to learn. There's a reason no major discovery was made in a classroom -- true innovation, discovery and learning is an organic process.
