My philosophy of teaching is that a teacher should let students discover solutions in their own way. A teacher is someone who is there just to lead them in the right direction. It is rarely a good thing for a teacher to just provide an answer because often times this is of no help to the student. A teacher must read and understand where a student is coming from in order to ask the right questions and sometimes give answers so that the students can come to their own conclusions without being given too much information.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is catered to the student. However he/she learns best is the way I will strive to teach them. With no preference, however, I am a very visual educator, as that is how I best learn. I mainly teach with step by step examples, explaining each step's relevance along the way while relating concepts to real world application.
Throughout my undergraduate and graduate studies I have maintained an A average. I think learning should be fun. If a student doesn't enjoy what she is doing, she won't likely attain mastery of the discipline. Moreover, I think students learn best by doing as opposed to being told what to do (i.e. practice as opposed to lecture and explanation). This means that I leave a lot of space for students to try things without fear of making mistakes. Evaluation (especially critical evaluation) is an important element in the later learning process, but initially the priorities should be placed upon fun, experimentation, praise, and lots and lots of practice.

I volunteer for HOBY (Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar) every year. This program pushes facilitation, which is what I strive to do. I like to try to facilitate and push my students to ask questions and talk to me as a peer. I always try to give at least three compliments to every criticism because students are often too hard on themselves.
