My comments on tutoring ADD/ADHD : I am a special education teacher and have worked with many students with ADD/ADHD.

My classroom experience with Special Education started while in college at Illinois State University, where I gained very valuable experience teaching in a variety of classrooms. For one semester, I taught in a junior high life-skills classroom where we practiced daily living skills and went out into the community so the students could practice skills such as locating items in a store, paying with money, and crossing the street. A Little Bit About Me...

Based on my past teaching experiences, I have learned that in order to motivate students to learn, it’s imperative to make connections between the curriculum and their prior experiences and interests. I believe that it is unrealistic to expect students to learn at the same rate and have identical learning styles, so teachers must differentiate their instruction to account for all types of learning abilities, levels, interests, and talents. For instance, teachers should be able and willing to plan lessons and/or assessments that allow students to utilize their own individual and unique intelligences, such as perhaps music or art.

The first thing I would want to know about my students is how do they learn. This would allow me to develop lesson plans that would be meaningful and productive to them. Another area that I feel is necessary would be their current abilities. Doing curriculum-based assessments would allow me to align and differentiate the curriculum to their levels.
