A Little Bit About Me...

During my career as a researcher in the field of software engineering, my work depended on mathematical thinking. I have spent considerable energy, from my time working toward my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in engineering and through my subsequent career, communicating ideas through writing, lecturing, tutoring, and creating and teaching courses. Watching my own children going through high school has motivated me for the past six years to focus my attention on teaching and tutoring, concentrating on math.
I enjoy teaching young adults, watching "the light bulb go off" as they come to understand concepts that had been eluding them. I am hands on. I am very parient and to not get frustrated easily. I do not have an age preference becuase I enjoy working with all age groups. I am personaly continuing with my Masters in September of this year. I cannot express how important education is to further your ability to care and provide for your family. I love working with children on this subject as well. I have taken MANY communication and diversity/ethics classes and have a firm understanding of how to approach and communicate with people on many educational and social levels. I LOVE to communicate and teach how to better communicate with others.
I have worked with homeless families to further thier education and their children. I have created, promoted, and taught in a GED program for young adults up to seniors in odrer for them to aquire their GED.

More About This Tutor...

My first two years of teaching were as an intern with the University of New Mexico and Albuquerque Public Schools. I taught 8th grade Math full time at a large public middle school. The next year I continued the same position and added on an after school tutoring program for all grade levels. I then took a position teaching 6,7&8 grade Math at an alternative school for students with severe discipline issues. This was a small setting with classes no larger than 12. I was able to spend a lot of time one-on-one with the students and develop personalized lesson plans that fit their needs and learning styles.
I strongly believe in inquiry based learning with the teacher acting as a facilitator or coach. I like to see students heavily engaged in what they are learning, and applying the new skills to daily life.
