A Little Bit About Me...

Science has always been very fascinating to me and I love to share what I have learned in the sciences. I think that it is important that all students have a good grasp of biology, chemistry and math to ensure a good understanding of how the earth works. I believe it is important to be patient with children. I want to make learning fun and interesting to my students by giving them examples they can relate to their real life.
I graduated in May, 2010 from Indiana University with a BS in Biology and a minors in Environmental Management and African American Diaspora Studies. Through my biology curriculum I took many math, chemistry, biology and physics classes. While I enjoy working with a younger population, I have had more experience with middle school, high school, and college students. I am very patient and easy-going, but I also expect that my students perform the tasks asked of them in the time given, as to further reach our goals. I have a descriptive way of teaching, but I am also a firm believer in using abstract methods in order to obtain and understanding. Visual aids can also be very helpful, such as using pictures, every-day items, or a chemistry model set.

I like to have a relationship with the students I tutored where they feel comfortable with me; I want them to be able to tell me the problems they're having with the work and what I can do to help. I like to be friendly with them while still being an authority figure where they want to do their best. I think this type of relationship allows me to push the students to their maximum limit without discouraging them when we're having a difficult session.
I worked at LearningRX as a cognitive skills trainer where I worked with students who were having difficulty in school and I was able to find their areas of difficulty and help build those areas up while also helping with their memory, visual acuity, and processing speed.
