I have a Master of Arts degree in English from Utah State University and have taught EFL overseas and within the US. Recently (from 07-08), I worked as a Math Tutor for challenged fifth graders and also for Kindergarteners part-time at Lincoln Elementary in Layton while my son was in pre-school. I am competent in elementary math and sincerely enjoy helping others to find the inherent beauty of numbers and what they can do.
I love kids - they are often sweet, funny, easily impressed and are a great audience. I know that it is possible to make learning fun through a close, interactive relationship with a student - showing and guiding them through your own discovery of the subject. A great personal tutor helped me achieve a 710 (94th percentile) on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). When learning a new idea, I believe in repetition and creativity...and conceptual "shortcuts" are okay too!
I received my two undergraduate degrees from Brigham Young University and Utah Valley State College in Spanish and Accounting, respectively. Thereafter, I received my graduate degree in Accounting from the University of Notre Dame. I have tutored my cousin (college accounting class), a single mother (college tax class), a graduate student (college accounting class), and three friends (basic college admission diagnostic test and the Graduate Management Admission Test, or GMAT)
